The Tarangire River, which winds through the park, draws large concentrations of animals. This vast, unbroken, and inactive volcanic caldera is over 600 meters (2,000 feet) deep and shelters nearly 20,000 large mammals, as well as smaller wildlife and numerous bird species. The crater’s diverse habitats, including lush forests, are home to buffalo, zebras, and other grazing animals, along with abundant birdlife. You will spend the day exploring this extraordinary ecosystem and enjoy a picnic lunch inside the crater. Later, your guide will drive you back either to the airport for your departing flight or to your hotel in Arusha.
